No visit to Cornwall is complete without a traditional Cornish Cream Tea and The Waymarker’s is one of the best.

We were crowned champion of “Truly Cornish Clotted Cream Tea” category at the CHOOSE CORNISH food and drink awards of 2014. We also have many good reviews at The Waymarker at TripAdvisor listing and at RateMyCreamTea to judge for yourself.

All our scones are homemade on our premises and uniquely shaped in a square to match our square tiered cake stands which we use to display the Cream Tea. This slate cake stand is sourced from Delabole slate and made by Stevens Cornish Slate Company, as are the flat slates which we use for a single scone serving.

We choose to serve Tregothnan Tea as standard with our cream tea, making it close to 100% Cornish cream tea due to inclusion of a percentage of tea leaf produced on their Cornish Estate being present in each Tregothnan teabag. Otherwise we make coffee options available using Olfactory Coffee who roast their beans in their Penryn–based roastery and source ethically with farmers and green bean brokers from across the globe.

Our cream tea is issued with two scones per person, a ramekin serving of Rodda’s clotted cream and ramekin portion of Boddington’s Strawberry Jam of Mevagissey. This strawberry jam during summer production has lovely chunks of strawberries visible in the jam.

Our Cream Tea menu has multiple flavours of scone choices, also caters for special dietary needs on request in both savoury choices of scone and a gluten-free form of sweet scone.

The research into cream teas of Cornwall led to a recipe for ‘Cornish scones’ including the flavouring of cinnamon with the dried fruit and so as an alternative to a traditional plain scone there is the very popular cinnamon and sultana flavouring. Our gluten-free sweet scone option is a butternut squash and maple flavouring. As not everyone has a sweet tooth there is the savoury option with cheddar and bacon or Gluten Free goat’s cheese, chive and walnut which is served with a local chutney.

Additionally, these savoury scones can be embellished into a full afternoon tea with local Brie and Cranberry Sandwiches. The ultimate level of Afternoon Tea decadence includes adding a crab sandwich to our choice of two sweet scones to make a cream tea to remember. Every sweet cream tea is also decorated with fresh fruit selection and the savoury cream tea is served with micro-leaf salad garnish.
