The Waymarker is thrilled that this year’s expansion of the SW Awards categories has allowed their hidden gem of an eatery to be recognised against the rest of the region’s café style venues. The Waymarker attended the South West Tourism Awards at Ashton Gate Stadium Bristol on 2nd February where it was revealed that we won Silver trophy.
This achievement is still bewildering considering the strength of entries we were competing against from other fantastic counties of the SouthWest area. The latest accolade follows from our prestigious success of winning the Gold trophy in the Cafe/Tearoom category at the Cornwall Tourism Awards for both 2016 and 2015 held every November at The Headland Hotel, Newquay.“Gaining such accolades in such a rural location proves that it’s not about where you are but more about your ethos and consistency in your service” says Rhiannon Mann, proprietor of The Waymarker “The SouthWest Tourism scheme provides recognition to businesses who show passion about their industry and their region no matter how large or small the company.”
Another consequence of this privileged shortlisting has meant that The Waymarker is currently under consideration to proceed through to the national Visit England Awards for Excellence 2017. That stage is notoriously difficult to proceed into as cafes are combined into a single “Taste” category alongside restaurants from all other
regions, who are whittled down to three Visit England Finalists.
All these accolades have been bestowed upon our rurally located hidden gem of a foodie destination in the short time since opening in October 2009
