Mother’s Day at The Waymarker
We all know the importance of mothers. Being a mum means learning, listening, leading, laughing and loving. A mother is not only there for you as you grow up but she will also become your best friend. How will you show your mum how much you care this year?
Mother’s Day is a wonderful celebration, honouring mothers everywhere on various days all over the world. It is a day where people surprise and treat their mothers in appreciation for everything they have done. If there’s one thing we love about Mother’s Day, it’s seeing families in their generations celebrating and children appreciating not only their mothers but their grandmothers and even great-grandmothers.
But what are the true origins of Mother’s Day? Celebration of motherhood has been traced back to ancient Greeks and Romans, however most traditionally and well known, Mother’s Day is the Christian festival known as ‘Mothering Sunday’, falling on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This occasion was originally seen as a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church”, for a special service.
